CONSUMER CONFIDENCE vs THE REALITY

Consumer Reality kicked in as we say Goodbye to 2010. Confidence numbers for December are down.

Despite the unexpected drop and the Mortgage mess, we expect the Major Indexes to remain at this level or close higher for the year. Economic outlook for the year 2011 is positive, a slight upward revision to the GDP is widely expected.

Our Research shows that the employment gains made in the past two months were mostly in the retail and transportation sectors. The bulk of the hiring took place in stores across America and fulfillment center scattered around the country.

Unfortunately many of these workers will lose their jobs in the coming weeks and months. We are expecting a little pick up in hiring from manufacturing and service sectors, for the short term, at best, that may have a net neutral affect to the over all unemployment figures.

It looks like 'baby Kim' , the youngest son of Kim Jong-Il, trying to impress his Daddy with little fireworks. He has been appointed and introduced to the world, not too long ago, as the heir to the Kim Dynasty.

BBC reported that the South Korean president and his cabinet met in an 'undisclosed,underground', bomb proof shelter – now wait a minute, the 'undisclosed location' part has a familiar ring to it - never mind, Its just our PTSD acting up.

The two little shells landing at a remote Island, to us, sounded more like some bored kid in the neighborhood lighting up some left over fireworks from the 4th of July. We know its nuisance and could be dangerous, but WAR! Gimme a break.

There is NO WAR, there WON'T be any WAR. UNLESS!

Unless of course if it is in the Best Interest of the Economy- lets face it QE2 didn't do well at the Box Office. So one has to be a real fool to start shooting for the sequel and hope to turn into a Christmas Black Buster. That is a little too much capital risk.

QE2 is slow and unpopular

War is Easy, you can see the results on the ground, pretty fast. What QE2 has failed to do WAR would do it, it would be a popular bipartisan affair, much faster and cheaper, you don't need to bail out no body, no ugly looking stimulus packages, who wants them for Christmas?

How could we justify

That's easy, just ask any Think Tank in Washington, worth their salt, they would not only concur but also produce a 760 page report to back it up.

The communist Government announced it will limit the quantities, of the most useful of these 17 rare earths, drastically reducing the supply could jeopardize the fledgling electric battery industry and many other new emerging technologies depend on these rare elements.
The US Government, Japan (which happen to be the largest importer of these materials in the World) and the EU are planning to take China to the WTO.
Are the Chinese mistaking rare earths to something like say giving back Tibet to the Dalai Lama?
As for as we know they can keep their country and sell the 'rare earths', like the most under appreciated often maligned 'Coal' or the Iron ore for that matter.
We don't know whether and when the Chinese will come back to the Earth and treat the rare earths like any other minerals. Crude oil prices are trending up. Crude generally doesn't get much attention when the price is under $80. When the price is between the comfort zone - $70 to $80 Dollars - both the OPEC cartel and the consumers are happy to pump and go.

1.MakeMyTrip - MMYT- is an India based online travel site with over 40% share of the domestic travel market, rising middle class and increasing online shopping trend will help this company retain its leading position in the near future. There are other lesser known domestic travel sites as well as the well known international sites like Expedia and Priceline that are aggressively competing for the market share. Our hunch is one of the International sites may decide to partner with or buy a stake in the company rather than build from the ground up.

2.Kanghui Holdings – KH – is a China based maker of orthopedic implants. There is a huge potential market for the aging and increasingly affluent Chinese population. Hip replacement and Knee replacement use to be a rare and true luxury for the ultra-rich few Chinese, who could afford to travel abroad or nearby Hong Kong or Singapore for such procedures. This company could be a huge beneficiary of the fast growing private health service sector.

As the month long World Cup comes to an end, experts fear a huge spike in depression and withdrawal symptoms in young men, an increase in youth related crime specially in South Africa and the neighboring countries like Zimbabwe. The promised land reforms never materialized, less than 10% of the land has been redistributed to the poor landless farmers.

However, according to the latest figures South Africa is expected to see as much as $10 Billion Dollars increase in its GDP. The country badly needed highways, bridges and convention centers, most of the money was well spent. South Africa has a large population base and a rapidly growing middle class. It not only will recoup the money it also got a FREE month long publicity, which truly is priceless!

Unlike Greece which spent more than $5 Billion Dollars to host the Olympics, and built so many huge 'Olympic Size' sporting facilities and special purpose villas so far away from the population centers, nearly all of them today are pad locked and rusting. Even the facilities that are close to the population centers are locked-up and the dogs and cats have taken up residence. Today Stock Markets across the Globe suffered huge losses and the DOW lost nearly 300 hundred points. However, Tesla Motors, true to its maverick name sake, electrified the Stock Exchange, there was thunderous applause, and the atmosphere was truly electric. It was akin to what Mr. Tesla claimed to have done (produced artificial lightening) in his Lab in Colorado Springs, Co.

Investors were eager to hitch a ride on Tesla's Roadster. The company's stock soared 41% making it the second Best IPO of the Year 2010.

Investors who could sit back and relax may enjoy the long ride, this could be one of the Best IPO's of 2010. The company has great financial backing, Federal Government support and lots of believers.

The top end Roadster sells for $100K and the Model S slated for 2012 has a price tag of $50K. We don't expect the Model S to become Model T of our generation any time soon, however, for those who believe the fossil fuel powered cars are going to go extinct soon, the Roadster is truly a luxurious sports car of the future, we say gentlemen and ladies: Start Your Engine!

The two Mortgage Giants, Fannie and Freddie, helped millions of Americans finance their dream homes for decades.

The mortgage crisis shattered the dreams of Millions of Americans, they lost their homes along with their life’s savings. Many became renters and unfortunately some became homeless.

In an ironic turn of fortunes as the mortgage meltdown saga continues to unfold. The two beaten down bruised giants, like their customers, (the former home owners) are forced to evacuate their trendy perch in Manhattan.

Their new home would have no security guards at the gate, no black limousines will be rolling down the drive way, the elegantly mowed green lawns and the beautiful flower beds would be the thing of the past.

They will be renting a trailer in OTC Park, OTC is a rough and tumble place, people in suits are looked up on with little curiosity and lot of suspicion. Residents of OTC Park wear suits in their life exactly on two occasions, one blissful the other somber.

You have to watch your feet walking down the road, there would be some pot holes and beer cans, you may inadvertently kick some beer cans and drive all the dogs in the neighborhood crazy. Looks like that’s what exactly happened today. Instead of a warm welcome, poor Freddie lost 32% and his sister Fannie 23%, after all, I guess, you could say, they are little nice to girls.

Looks like the World financial system hinges on what the Europeans will do, specially the Germans, a crucial vote is due tomorrow, my expectation, it will pass. The big question, however, is at what cost to the Europe's largest economies, namely the Germans and French.

Tony is like thousands of Dairy Farmers around the country going through a hard time. Dairy Farmers are facing huge financial hardship for, not lack of milk, on the contrary, but surplus of it, and that’s the real problem.

Milk prices crashed due to huge glut in the market. The precipitous decline in Milk prices left many with no choice but to declare Bankruptcy, including Mr. Tony Goltstein, a farmer from Indiana.

Unfortunately, for Tony there is another bubble causing the huge problem and he came up with a unique way to stop it. However, his neighbors are alarmed and terrified with his formula, and even the city is preparing to mobilize its resources in case he goes forward with his bubble-popping plan.

Unlike the Real Estate Bubble or the Tech Bubble that you couldn't see therefore you couldn't prevent it, as Greenspan said, this one you could not only see but smell it real time.

Cows are good. They give us milk but they are notorious in generating lots of Manure. How much Manure Does a Cow generate? It's astonishing to know that it generates equal to the body weight of a mature adult each day (148LBS). That is a staggering more than 54,000 LBS a Year.

You see Tony stored all this Manure from hundreds of cows in a gigantic lagoon, on his 180-acre farm in Indiana. This lagoon is literally overflowing and has so much methane gas trapped inside that it is creating bubbles the size of a Victorian sized house; causing his neighbors to be terrified, for fear that it may cause a huge explosion any time.

Tony, however,is a confident and prudent man, he is a farmer after all, he is not a banker to come up with something like CDO's, CDL's or any such Three Letter self-enriching concoctions. Instead, he thinks he can pop this humongous bubble with a Swiss army knife. This simple solution, to what seems like a huge problem, is causing alarm, and may be its time to smell the roses instead of raising a stink.
